2020 - A new decade

Happy New Year! Here we are at the start of a new decade, the Year of The Rat--which happens to be my Asian zodiac sign. I designed my Nezumi-chan pin to commemorate the occasion. She is representative of myself as a shamisen player. 2020 is the year of the metal rat, hence I elected to create this pin in rose gold. The Okinawa Collection

I have long been fascinated with Okinawan culture. As a child, I wanted a sanshin for the longest time--before I knew about Tsugaru shamisen. Alas, I did not get a sanshin until many years after I started playing shamisen...but I digress. Okinawa is top on my list of places to visit. I watched a breaking news broadcast in horror as the iconic Shuri Castle was destroyed in a devastating fire in October 2019. tsugaruterry: pin-maker?

A fairly new venture, I started making pins in 2018. The designs featured on my site and shop are all original concepts inspired by my travels to Japan.  The first pin I created was the shamisen simply because I wanted a shamisen pin to share with a couple of friends. My sanshin pin design soon followed because...why not? Shamisen and sanshin are instruments that I play almost daily; they define who I am.
